Commuter and Residential Students PDF Print

Commuter: Students commute daily to the campus for the all-day classes.

  • Tuition of $550 includes all instructional fees
  • On the first day of classes, all MITY students gather for an opening program and  then go with their teachers to their classrooms. Each day following, they go directly to their classes.
  • Students are responsible for their own lunches. They may bring their own lunch, buy lunch in the Macalester College campus center or visit one of the many small restaurants in the neighborhood.
  • Immediately following lunch, MITY presents a variety of special events and recreation activities. See our Recreation Page for more information.
  • Arrange a pick up spot where you can catch your ride home at the end of the day. Students are responsible for their own transportation.
  • A schedule of last day activities and programs is sent to parents during the first week of classes.
  • More detailed information is sent with the acceptance packet.

Residential: Students may apply to live on campus at Macalester College in a supervised campus dormitory.

  • Tuition of $1,400 includes all instructional fees, meals and planned residential costs, including a variety of supervised weekend and evening events. Students should bring spending money for personal use.
  • Resident students arrive on the Sunday before their session begins to register and move into their rooms. They have dinner on campus and then dorm supervisors conduct an orientation program which helps students get to know each other and the campus.
  • Students live in a campus dorm in double rooms. Roommates are assigned according to roommate information materials sent after acceptance.
  • Residential students are carefully supervised by specially trained and selected resident interns who look after their safety and well-being and coordinate and lead all social activies. Our current supervisor-to-student ration is 1:12.
  • For the safety of our residential students, only resident students and dorm supervisore are allowed in the dorm rooms.  Residential students are expected to remain on campus during the session. Visits to family or friends should occur before or after the session.
  • For students who choose to live on campus, there are also many excursions to Twin Cities attractions such as Valleyfair, sporting events, theatres and museums, as well as many on-campus activities.
  • Students and parents sign a code of conduct agreeing to MITY’s residential guidelines.
