Dear MITY Friend,
Since 1967 MITY’s rigorous classes taught by master teachers in the sciences, arts, and humanities, have inspired talented students. Unfortunately, for some tuition is a barrier to inspiration.
Vanja Temim is one such student. As an immigrant from the former –Yugoslavia, Vanja and her family spoke no English when they arrived in the United States. A high school counselor noticed Vanja’s great potential and urged her to apply for MITY’s Expand Your Mind program – she was accepted and provided with a full scholarship.
“My parents were so honored that I was accepted and grateful for the assistance that they felt compelled to contribute half of my tuition in future years, despite the fact that they qualified for full scholarships,” said Vanja.
She spent four years at MITY studying journalism and credits those years as how she overcame her language barrier. She graduated from the University of Minnesota’s School of Journalism and Mass Communication and has served MITY as a dorm supervisor, intern, co-teacher, and office assistant. She now works for Oracle and is the lead intern for MITY’s Your Extraordinary Saturday program.
Vanja explained why giving to MITY is important. “I’ve seen how education can break so many barriers. I saw it happen for me and countless other students, many of whom are now giving back to their communities.”
In order to inspire all of Minnesota’s talented and motivated youth, regardless of their families financial situation, we need your help. Every gift, no matter the size, will have a direct impact on a student. Please donate and join in our efforts to expand the potential for more of Minnesota’s talented youth.
Thank you for your support,
Roberta Seum, Executive Director
