2012 Summer Session information

Tuition:
Commuter: $560 per session
Commuter tuition includes all instructional costs.  It does not include lunch; students should bring their own lunch and snacks, or they can purchase their lunch at the Campus Center grill or cafeteria.  A $280 deposit is required with the application; $25 of the deposit is non-refundable, the full $280 deposit is non-refundable after June 1.  The balance of the tuition is due two weeks after you receive your acceptance package to ensure your spot in the class. 

Residential: $1400 per session
Residential cost includes tuition ($560) plus the residential cost ($840).  This includes all instructional materials, all meals, double occupancy dorm rooms, planned residential activities, including supervised weekend and evening events.  Students should bring spending money for personal use.  A $700 deposit is required with the application; $25 of the deposit is non-refundable, the full deposit is non-refundable after June 1.  The balance of the tuition and residential fee is due two weeks after you recieve your acceptance package.

Admission:
Students in grades 7 through 11 during the 2011-2012 school year are considered for admission.  No single factor decides an applicant’s admission.  All the supporting material is considered.  Minnesota Institute for Talented Youth does not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, gender, disability, national or ethnic origin in administration of its education policies, admission policies, or financial aid programs.  For more details click on How to Apply.

Application Procedure:

• Send MITY the completed application, teacher recommendation, and a copy of most recent report card or transcript.
• Write a short essay, no more than 200 words, about yourself and your interests.
• Send a $280/commuter or $700/residential deposit or completed Financial Aid Form.  MITY now accepts credit card payment.  Go to "Forms" to pay via Paypal (you do not need to be a paypal member.)
• Students will be considered for admission when all application information and deposit have been received.  Decisions are made on a rolling admission basis.  Acceptance emails or letters are sent as soon as we have all the application materials and payment.

Financial Aid:
Financial aid for partial or full tuition is available for students whose family demonstrates financial need.  Financial aid is only available toward tuition ($560), not toward residential expenses ($840).  If you need financial aid for residential costs please contact Robbie Seum at 651-696-6591.  The financial aid form can be downloaded from the website or call the office 651-696 6590 for a financial aid form (FAF) to be sent to you.

Daily Schedule:
Students take one class per session from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  Lunch is at 12:00 p.m. and our recreation program is from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m., offering students numerous extracurricular options.

Transportation:
The Institute does not operate school buses, but tries to assist in car pool arrangements. The Institute provides names, telephone numbers, and addresses to students who indicate on their application form an interest in car-pooling. Car pool list is sent to families mid-May.

MTC: The Macalester campus is centrally located for several  Metropolitan Transit Commission bus lines. Call 612-373-3333 or visit MTC website for route and schedule information.

Parking: There is free parking available on the Macalester campus.

DIRECTIONS

From Interstate 94: Exit on Snelling Avenue and go south on Snelling Avenue to Grand Avenue. Turn right (west) on Grand Avenue and go one block. Turn left (south) on Macalester Street and follow signs to visitor parking.

From the north on Interstate 35: Take 35E into St. Paul. Exit to Interstate 94 westbound, and follow the directions above.

From the south on Interstate 35: Take I-35E into St. Paul. Exit at Ayd Mill Road (exit #104B). At second light, take a left onto Grand Avenue (westbound). One block after crossing Snelling Avenue, turn left (south) onto Macalester Street. Follow signs to visitor parking.
