Commuter and Residential Students PDF Print

All Students:

  • Tuition includes all instructional materials and field trips
  • On the first day of classes, all MITY students gather for an opening program in the Macalester Chapel. After the program teachers will escort students to their classrooms. Each day following, they go directly to their classes.
  • Students have lunch at 12:00 noon. Following lunch, MITY presents a variety of special events and recreation activities.
  • The schedule of last day activities will be posted on our website and emailed to families who have listed their email addresses.

  • Rec Hour: Each day after lunch students and staff participate in a variety of activities that bring a lively addition to the MITY experience. MITY students participate in events designed to promote camaraderie within their class or with other classes. Opportunities to build teamwork, friendships, and leadership skills abound which make this break in the day a very special time for MITY students.

Commuter Students Only:

  • Students are responsible for their own lunch. They may bring a lunch or buy lunch at the Macalester Campus Center either in the cafeteria for approximately $8.50 or at the café where they can purchase a sandwich.
  • Students are responsible for their own transportation. Please arrange a pick up spot where you can catch your ride home at the end of the day.

Residential Students Only:

  • Tuition of $1,400 includes the class tuition and room and board, also all instructional fees, meals and planned residential costs, including a variety of supervised weekend and evening events. Students should bring spending money for personal use.
  • Residential students arrive on Sunday to register and move into their rooms.
  • Students live in a campus dorm in double rooms. Roommates are assigned according to roommate information sent with acceptance.
  • Residential students are carefully supervised by specially trained and selected resident interns who look after their safety and well-being and coordinate and lead all activities.
  • For the safety of our residential students, only resident students and dorm supervisors are allowed in the dorm rooms. Residential students are expected to remain on campus during the session.
  • For residential students only, there are also many excursions to Twin Cities attractions such as Valleyfair, sporting events, etc.
